Salmon Forum
Project Time Line
Use this as a guide to help you
prepare for the Salmon Forum. At the forum you will represent someone from a group of
people interested in the salmon issue. The
forum will be like a Town Hall where you will present your views and answer questions. The Salmon Forum will take place on Friday May
8th. Your parents and members of the Salmon
Listserv will be invited along with the press.
- You will be
required to make a position statement about your needs and interests as they relate to the
restoration of salmon runs. This should
be prepared ahead of time and should be submitted to the Salmon Listserv for comment
before the forum begins. Plan to post your
position statement to the Salmon List no later than May 1. Your completed position statement must be
submitted to the forum staff before you can participate (no later than May 6). You will receive a list of points and questions to
consider when drafting your position statement.
- You will be
asked to present your views at the forum and defend them. Be ready to answer questions
asked by guests. Questions will reflect
differing viewpoints and values. Be prepared
to compromise and work towards consensus. No
single person will have the right solution for this problem. We will supply you with sample questions after you
post your position statement to the Salmon Listserv. You will also make a 3 minute
speech which will be recorded.
- Document the
sources you use in gathering information. Submit
a bibliography of the books, periodicals and internet based sources you used in addition
to texts used in class. (Due date: May 6)
