All prisoner correspondence to this location will be processed there being opened and inspected solely to ensure the absence of contraband. It will then be scanned and made available on the facility tablet to the individual prisoner it was intended for, accessible by an individual account created by the prisoner.

All, money orders, checks, packages, magazines, books, and legal correspondence must still be mailed to 840 Albany Shaker Road, Albany NY 12211.

Any mail received at the Correctional Facility postmarked July 22, 2019 or later will be returned to sender.

All visitors are subject to the facility’s rules and regulations. Violation of such could result in termination of, or denial of, a visit. All visitors must pass through a scanner. Failure to properly clear scanner will result in denial of entry. The only item that may be in the possession of a visitor is the facility locker key. No other items allowed beyond the lobby area.

Nothing may be given to an inmate during a visit.

Identification Requirements: All visitors must present proper identification in order to visit an inmate. Such identification must include visitor's name, address, photograph, date of birth, and signature. Acceptable forms of ID: Valid driver’s license, or non-driver ID, U.S. Armed Services ID, or passport. Visitors under the age of 18 must have their birth certificate and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If not, the accompanying adult must possess a notarized letter from the parent or legal guardian authorizing such a visit. The letter must include the parent or legal guardian's name, address, and telephone number, the reason for the visit, the date and time of such visit, and the name of the inmate to be visited.

Visitation (Video or In-Person)

• Go to the website listed below and sign up for an account.
• To set up in-person visitation, select "schedule session" under "Securus Video Connect" then "add a new facility" and choose "Albany County In-Person."
• You will need to submit a picture of yourself as well as a valid ID.
• You will then receive an email letting you know if you are approved or denied. (We only deny people if the identification or picture doesn’t match with what you submitted.)
• When you schedule a visit, you have the option to add one additional person to the visit.
• Each inmate can have two (1) hour visits per week, with the week starting on Sunday.
• Visitors can schedule unlimited visits with multiple inmates but not at the same time.
• Visits must be scheduled at least (24) hours prior to the time selected and cannot be scheduled more than (7) days in advance.
• The number of inmates per visit will be limited, if the website states that there are “no time slots available”, visits are either not available for that day, or the session is full.

The Inmate Services Unit implements, coordinates, and monitors facility programs. By utilizing facility programs and community resources, Inmate Service Unit Staff attempt where appropriate, to encourage change in the inmate's lifestyle in effort to promote self-awareness, elevate morale, stimulate intellect, maintain/elevate dignity and prevent recidivism.

Inmate Service Unit Staff conduct intake interviews with newly admitted inmates. The intake interview extracts personal and family background, criminal and incarceration history, alcohol/other drug use, as well as medical and mental health concerns. The findings of the intake interview assist Inmate Service Unit Staff in developing an initial course of strategy toward appropriate inmate interaction and program recommendations.

A Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor is on staff to conduct alcohol/other drug assessments, assist with inmate diversions to community treatment programs, facilitate community reintegration for the county sentenced inmate, and assist in coordination of self-help meetings and the Intensive Corrections Addictions Residential Education Program.

Facility Clergy are available to lead weekly religious services, visit inmate housing units, conduct individual consultations and work with inmate families/significant others.

The Corrections Training Unit oversees all training within the Facility.

Instructors at the Correctional Facility are both New York State Commission of Correction and the New York State Office of Public Safety certified and are certified to instruct both Corrections and Law Enforcement Personnel.

The unit is in charge of coordinating on-going training for the correctional staff, which includes 420 sworn officers and civilians.

The facility-training unit has hosted 25 regional Basic Training Academies and has graduated more than 500 sworn officers.

Correction Officers and Supervisors receive annual training in Firearms, Penal Law (physical and deadly physical force), Pepper Spray, First aid / CPR / AED, Hazardous Communications, and Fire Safety.

The United States Department of Justice adopted the National PREA Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to sexual abuse and sexual harassment in juvenile detention, prisons and/or jails, lockups, and community confinement facilities.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office has actively been implementing the PREA standards through policy, education, and good working strategies with the goal of preventing sexual abuse and/or sexual harassment in its facilities.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office has zero tolerance toward all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment involving any employee, volunteer, contractor, Inmate and/or detainee. All reports of sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and any possible retaliation for reporting sexual abuse or sexual harassment will be thoroughly and objectively investigated to completion.

Third-party reporting of sexual abuse and sexual harassment can be made 24 hours a day to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office Communications Centers at (518) 765-2351.

A delay in reporting an incident will place the safety of any inmate or detainee in jeopardy and make the investigation of the incident far more difficult.

Annual statistical data reports will be available for public display at the Albany County Correctional Facility, on the Information Board located in the visitor lobby.
