Thomas, 79, of 1001 35th Street, Phenix City, AL, died Friday, January 4, 2002 at his home. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Monday, January 7,2002 at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL, with Rev.

Bert Hutson, Rev. Billy Fortune and Rev. Ron Carnley officiating. Pallbearers are: Bryan Collins, Derek Paul, Tommy Stinson, LaDon Stinson, Scott Foster and Brad Dozier. Honorary pallbearers are: Scott Hindman, Chris Hindman, Lamar Eldridge, Lamax Eldridge, Ernest Eldridge, Mike Thomas and Rev.

Elbert Ward. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6-9 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Thomas was born September 23, 1922 in Coffee County, AL, son of the late Coley Thomas and Mamie Berry Thomas.

He was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a Medic. Mr. Thomas was also a retired teacher at Columbus Barber School. A kind and loving husband and father, he touched many lives and had great compassion for other people. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Coy Thomas and Lewie Thomas.

Surviving are his wife, Myron M. Thomas; daughters, Arainia (Ned) Stinson of Phenix City, Lucille (Don) Hindman of Fairburn, GA, Rhonda (Elmer) Collins of Smiths Station, AL, Wanda (Dennis) Paul of Phenix City and Sharon (Kevin) Ward of Seale, AL; a sister, Edna Eldridge of Phenix City; a brother, Ray Thomas of Alabama; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She had resided in Columbus four years and was employed as a Business Analyst at Total Systems. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. Crittenden of Columbus, GA, Lorna Ball (Van) of McKenzie, AL and Samantha Pelzer of Stone Mountain, GA; two brothers, Keith Jackson of Germany and Bernard Jackson of Ohio; maternal grandmother, Estella Crittenden of River Falls, AL; paternal grandfather, Roosevelt Jackson, of Evergreen, AL; a devoted friend, Nicholas Prescott of Columbus, GA; six nieces, six nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Burkhalter was born November 13, 1917 in Daisy, GA, outside of Claxton, GA, son of Dewitt T. Burkhalter, and Miram Shuman Burkhalter. He has lived in Columbus 56 years and was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church. He was a U.S.

Army Veteran of World War II and was decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European-AfricanMiddle Eastern Service Medal and the Purple Heart for his service to his country. He retired in 1979 as a salesman from Franklin Life Insurance Company. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Bishop Burkhalter of Columbus; a sister, Lucille Cody of Winter Haven, FL; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Vicki Burkhalter of Seale, AL; one daughter, Patricia Burkhalter Herring of Columbus; grandson, Brain Burkhalter of Auburn, AL; granddaughter, Lindsay Herring of Columbus; step-granddaughter, and husband, Sherri Jeff Smith of Smiths, AL; two step-great grandchildren of Smiths, AL; several nieces and nephews. Spivey, Sr. April 28, 1929 January 3, 2002 CUSSETA, GA Mr. Charlie Spivey, 72, of P.O. Box 334, 110 West Railroad Street, Cusseta, GA, died Thursday at The Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Bethel A.M.E.

Church, with Rev. J.W. Honeysucker officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, according to Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation will be PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence Wednesday at 12:15 PM. Mr. Spivey, the son of the late Lucious and Emma Burke Spivey, was born in Chattahoochee County, GA, on April 28, 1929. A life-long resident of Chattahoochee County, he retired as Supervisor with the State of Georgia Highway Department.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Mrs. Hattie Mae Spivey; four sons, Henry T. Spivey (Melanie) Charlie Spivey, (Annette) and Gary W. Spivey (Tiffany), all of Columbus and Grady L.
