giant pandas set to make their public debut. so what about the san francisco zoo? we're live this morning with an update on plans to bring a pair of the bears to the bay area. and a live look in paris this morning. remember the controversy surrounding the women's gymnastics floor exercise? well, that's when us gymnast jordan chiles appealed and won bronze. but hold on. a new twist leaving that medal in limbo. this is today in the bay. good morning to you. thanks for starting your morning with us. i'm marcus washington. we'll get a check in with kari in just a moment with a look at that forecast. but first we want to go over to mike inouye. right now because, mike, i know you're tracking that crash in the south bay. yeah exactly. look, this is the scene. or just minutes ago, camden avenue, a major roadway in san jose, is closed at crouser. folks familiar with the area know there's a shell station there. there's a taco bell. they can't access that intersection because of this

crash and the power line down. now, the good news, or the less bad news, no major injuries, so that's good news. the bad news is that those power lines down, they have to be restrung. and we're told they will not reopen this intersection until that has happened. and we'll look at the map where this is. this is again camden avenue at crouser. two major roadways south of highway 85. some folks may be heading to highway 85, and that will be a problem if you're heading off of blossom hill, you can't go north to 85 through that intersection. now, we do have some nearby. there's harwood here, which is not a big road, but lee, lee, and meridian, those are two avenues getting over in toward that section of highway 85. so carey, that's an access road on the southern part of our commute maps here for the south bay. but we also have schools that will be a surface street issue. this morning as well. yeah, but just a few hours we're going to have more people out and about, and we're getting back into our routine of seeing the kids heading off to school and then getting to work. we're starting out now, temperatures in the low 60s in san jose, low 50s in san

francisco, and we're in the mid 50s in much of the north bay. happy first day of school for the kids in san jose, as well as all of the other schools coming back online today starts out mostly sunny. temperatures in the low 60s, so a cool start, but they'll need like a jacket and shorts because it's going to be really heating up for the afternoon. we'll be back in the upper 80s in some areas and a look around the bay area anywhere from 68 for a high in san francisco to 91 in concord. and it will be as hot as 100 degrees today in clear lake. so we'll talk about what's ahead ahead going into the weekend. that's coming up in the full microclimate forecast marcus. all right kerry thank you. well new overnight a 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocking japan this happened just before 1:00 this morning. our time now a tsunami advisory was issued shortly after. we do have some brand new video from a local radio station showing the moment the earthquake started. you can see right here. so japanese leaders warning people to immediately leave the coastal areas of kochi

and miyazaki prefectures. this is until it had been lifted. so far, there are no reports of structural damage to any of those buildings happening today. for the first time in five years, giant pandas will go on a public display at a california zoo. now, the buzz in san diego is growing so big. governor gavin newsom is declaring today california panda day today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco. this morning. and ginger, all of this has the bay area lovers really believing that by this time next year, we'll actually have our own panda bears. well, marcus, that is their hope. happy panda day to you, san francisco mayor london breed and officials from china have already signed a memorandum of understanding to make san francisco part of china's panda diplomacy program. board of supervisors have also signed off on fundraising rules for the mayor back in june, but when exactly those pandas will arrive

here in san francisco? well, that is still up in the air. the timeline for that will be set by the completion of a panda enclosure at the zoo. mayor breed says san francisco zoo has been consulting with san diego about the panda project. now she's hoping to celebrate a panda debut, much like they're having today. visitors of san diego zoo are thrilled to have king bao and chung shu yan as additions to the zoo. they are attracting visitors. san diego has put out traffic alerts for the area, and locals are expecting slowdowns on the roads until the end of august. it's a draw that mayor breed hopes the pandas will also bring to san francisco in a recent sit down marcus had with mayor breed, she shared her optimism for the potential that panda tourism can bring. pandas are about joy, but they're about our economic recovery and what what we're and bringing it back to downtown. we've seen a 92% increase in activation of nightlife in

downtown because of our block parties. first thursday bangles and beads, making it an entertainment zone. and just this past week, a cool rave. in the middle of the day, i mean fun, exciting things that bring people to downtown, but also people are loving san francisco and they're loving their neighborhoods and they're loving destinations like the zoo. well, i know you had that sit down at the end of last month with the mayor breed, marcus. but that panda optimism, optimism still continues. not everyone is on board with that, however. some critics say that the zoo's facilities are simply inadequate to host these animals. so we will watch to see how this continues to develop. but for now, happy panda day in san francisco, ginger conejero saab today in the bay and happy panda day to you too, ginger. thank you. well, we are closing in on the home stretch of the 2024 paris olympic games. now here's a live look in paris at the eiffel tower. controversy now

looming over a member of team usa's gymnastics team, today in the bay jessica aguirre joining us live from paris this morning. okay, jessica, we're talking about gymnast jordan chiles. individual medal here. one country actually challenging that medal. yes. if you thought all that gripping drama marcus with team usa gymnastics was over and now the gymnastics portion of the paris games is over, think again. romania is appealing that last minute score change that put jordan chiles on the podium. you remember this magical moment for chiles she. this was on monday when she finished the floor final. at first it looked like jordan chiles was in fifth place and wooden medal team usa submitted an inquiry questioning whether the judges gave chiles credit for the difficulty of her routine. then, moments later, you actually saw chiles cheering and jumping and screaming when she realized that she'd been bumped to third, winning the bronze. now that change knocked

romania off the podium, and now romania is disputing the score change. in fact, the prime minister saying that his athletes were treated in a dishonorable manner and that he would not be attending the closing ceremony. now, jordan chiles is going to be on the today show in a little bit. we're going to see if she actually addresses that score change or not. that remains to be seen. okay semifinal time for the ladies water polo team. team usa women will are the reigning olympic champions. they're going to be back on the attack against australia in tonight's tournament. and the winner will advance to the gold medal match. team usa with danville's maggie steffens. we've got jewell roemer from martinez, san jose's jenna flynn, san anselmo's ella woodhead. they want to make it four consecutive gold medal wins. now the women as you know we've been showing you all week have rapper flavor flav as their official hype man. so that must make me the official hype woman. all right. more female ferocity

on the pitch expected this weekend when the women of team usa soccer take on brazil for the gold, marking the first time the u.s. will actually play for gold since 2012. stanford sophia smith, who scored that win over germany in the semifinal match, talks about that moment when victory struck. honestly, i just saw a little opening in the net and knew that i had to put the ball there and do that for our team, and i feel like i don't remember a lot that happened. it all happened so fast, but yeah, mao played an absolutely perfect pass and i knew i just had to get on the end of it. you're going to be able to hear more from smith on the today show. she'll be on in just a little bit as well. so check that out. and they are swimming and shimmering in silver. after the u.s. women's artistic swimming team won a medal, their first in 20 years, these women are hard core athletes. they're a combo of gymnasts, dancer and deep sea

diver, and they do it all in perfect synchronicity. lots of synchronized clapping in the bay area for jacqueline lieu from milpitas and incoming stanford freshman megumi field and audrey kwan, now the women impressing the judges and the rest of us terrestrials with their underwater moonwalk to michael jackson's smooth criminal proof being that their talents are truly out of this world. now i'm going to be talking to the women a little bit later, those three, a little bit about how they put that whole you know, routine together and how much it means for them to be the ones that bring a victory home after 20 years. i also want to let you know some breaking news that we just found out a few minutes ago. turns out that katie ledecky, superstar swimmer, right, is going to be the flagbearer for the u.s. in the closing ceremony. and marcus, if you remember, ledecky wasn't in the opening ceremony because she actually had to swim the next day. so a great honor for stanford's katie ledecky. i am

try to keep its gold medal in diving streak alive. this is in the three meter springboard final. and on the track it is women's long jump and 100 meter gold medalist. noah lyles going for that rare double in the 200 meter finals. you can catch all of that action beginning at 8:00 tonight right here on nbc bay area. well, time for a look at our local forecast. meteorologist kari hall is tracking those numbers. looking good this morning. kari. yes. starting out nice and cool. temperatures in the low 60s from san jose to palo alto to walnut creek, san francisco. much cooler now only at 52 degrees. as we take a look outside in san jose, our high temperatures are coming down just a little bit a few degrees. instead of being ten degrees above our typical high for this date, it will be a couple of degrees above that, and we'll see santa rosa's high today up to 86 degrees. concord still 91 will be in the low 90s for livermore, san jose in the upper 80s, while san francisco will see highs in the upper 60s.

future this morning as well. still, a lot of unease about tough economic data. we get first time jobless claims here shortly. sunnyvale's fortinet. look at this jumping though, after the company said sales and profits were up. reddit. we haven't talked about them for a while. also said that sales and profit were up, though it didn't help the stock a lot. reddit also making a fair amount of money licensing its data to users postings to large language ai models like google. that's been an unexpected revenue stream for a lot of user intensive companies. nasa says those two astronauts that were supposed to spend eight days in space may not come back to earth until next year. nasa and boeing, which makes the capsule that so far has not taken the astronauts home, have insisted they are not stuck in space, that they could come home any time they wanted, that the problems were not with the return craft that claim is getting more and more difficult to believe. nasa indicates. instead of using the boeing

starliner to return a spacecraft dubbed the calamity capsule, astronaut suni williams and butch wilmore will stay and work as part of the space station's regular crew until the arrival of a spacex dragon capsule in early 2025. this is a campaign about where we're going, and that's a future where everyone matters and everyone's included. vice presidential candidate tim walz in wisconsin yesterday, the wall street journal has analyzed walz financial firing filings rather determined he is one of the least wealthy people to have ever run for vice president. the walz's sold their home in mankato, minnesota, when he became governor. they're living in a rental while the governor's mansion is being renovated. they report the family has between 1000 and 15,000 in savings for their children's college education. the numbers are based on walz's financial filings. as governor, he'll make a new filing as soon as very soon as a candidate for vice president,

walz's finances become that much more stark when you compare them to his competitor, former venture capitalist jd vance, who as an ohio senator holds stakes in more than 100 companies still making royalties of course, off of that best selling book as well. marcus walz makes $127,000 a year as the minnesota governor. the minnesota legislature tried to give him a raise to 149,000, but he turned it down. so i want to compare it with this, though the head football coach for the minnesota gophers, $6 million a year. by the way the gophers went three and six in conference last year. well he should go coach with them because you remember he took that team football coach yeah that's right. the team from like 20 something in zero to state champions. and you know what. he'd probably do it for the same amount of money. yeah yeah. well interesting. all right. thanks scott. all right. so you meet you may need to stack up on the stock up i should say because days of using someone else's costco card appears to be coming to an end.

so the company is now cracking down on nonmembers. those new posting on its website indicating that costco is ready to install digital card scanners at all of those store entrances. now, most membership cards also have photo ids, but those that do not, well, they're going to have to show one. the company says more members are raising questions about those nonmembers taking advantage of the discounts. and of course, the free samples. you got to pay for the free samples. now i'm wondering about access because you can usually get access to the food court to get that hot dog deal, but i don't know, are they going to check for i don't know, i don't have a car details. oh well, you know, when you're by yourself, you don't need that much. no i was going to say i'll loan it to you, but i guess i can't. no, i'm like, they're like, look at the picture, not the picture. i think like, something's off here. different haircut. okay he's not making a comment. i just dyed my hair. that's it. all right, let's get a look at that forecast today. yeah, i think i need to head there today. i still got to pick up

some school supplies. we have more kids heading back to school over the next couple of days. and so we're going to see a start in the morning with a live look outside in san jose. all clear. very much like yesterday. at times it may look a little hazy outside. we still have some drifts of wildfire smoke coming in. and then for our inland areas, we're going to see temperatures in the low 80s to low 90s. and then another breezy day with an elevated fire danger in the hills. let's head to pleasanton. also have kids going back to school. and happy first day for all the kids and staff. we're going to see them getting up around 6 to 7:00 to temperatures in the upper 50s. as we go throughout the day, a quick warm up at 10:00. it's in the low 70s, hopefully at reces. things are still feeling nice and comfortable at lunchtime. it's going to be at 80 degrees and then seeing some mid to upper 80s for the rest of the day will be at 87 at 3:00, holding steady there and then seeing the temperatures coming back down for the evening at 7:00. we're in the upper 70s and

then low 70s at 8:00. a nice little cooldown for this evening with our south bay temperatures still pretty hot in the inland valleys up to the low 90s for morgan hill. but in the past couple of days we've seen some mid to upper 90s, so the numbers are coming down just slightly, but will still be warm for the afternoon. walnut creek seeing temperatures in the mid 80s, but we'll see some low 80s for palo alto, daly city, parts of san francisco in the low 60s, and then up to 100 degrees for ukiah, while santa rosa as well as napa will be in the mid 80s. and then it will still be very warm over the next couple of days. we were hoping for a nice little weekend cool down, but it looks like it wants to hold on a bit longer. and then early next week we're catching some relief with temperatures dropping down into the mid 80s, which will be a nice little change from those 90s we had. and mike, you're looking for a crash on the bay bridge. yeah, we don't see the crash, but we see the impact from the crash. look how slow it is. so right behind me. that's

one bay area city is tackling our climate in crisis and the payoff for school teachers and their students. this is today in the bay good morning to you on this thursday, i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. certainly a busy morning today. but first, a taste of perris in contra costa county. we're live this morning inside a local bakery at 545 bob redell will show us some of their unique french favorites. and i hope he brings some back to the station. isn't that a given? come on. all right, let's check in with meteorologist kari hall, who has a bake of our own, because the temperatures they're going to be a little bit warmer today. yeah, it's going to be warm for the afternoon on this first day of school for san jose. and as we take a live look outside, all clear, even before the sun rises, this morning. and we are going to start with temperatures in the low 60s, right at about 62 degrees at drop-off time. so they may begin the day with a jacket, but taking it off for the afternoon at pickup time

will be in the upper 80s. and then looking at our temperatures, what we're expecting today versus what's average for this time of year, we're getting a little bit closer to average. has been such a hot week, especially for spots like santa rosa, concord, livermore, some of our inland valleys. we're still going to be in the upper 80s low seconds, but coming down even more over the next few days. i'll be tracking that for you. mike, you were saying that the bay bridge is jammed up too early for this. we're looking over here, though. look, there's some flashing lights and it is starting to move much better. those taillights heading into san francisco. an earlier crash reported right around the treasure island tunnel. chp just confirmed. as we suspected, they are slowly clearing that vehicle to the san francisco side. the arrow at the top does show better movement. it was almost stopped for those taillights. the speed sensors also reflect much more recovery approaching san francisco. the slowdown is approaching treasure island. they may cue those metering lights on a little bit early, but we do see that recovery, so there is hope there. highway four definitely slow as it approaches the pinole area coming skyway. there's a traffic

break that was going on in the area from an overnight crew. i believe that should clear up over the next 20 minutes, but the build is on for highway four, highway 37 and the rest of the bay also looks pretty standard for those speed sensors. back to you. thank you mike. well, summer break is officially over for 25,000 students in san jose unified schools this morning. they returned for a new school year, but some parents probably wondering how things will be different after that scathing civil grand jury report today in the bay's kris sanchez is live in san jose this morning. what's the district's response? kris well, we are hoping to hear from the district at some point, but what we know is that thousands and thousands of families showed up for san jose, unified's first ever back to school webinar. the district trying to address questions about resources, academic programs and they mentioned one new resource this year, and we are contracting with a few additional local

agencies to provide mental health support resources for families. so that is one new offering that we have that's expanded beyond what we were offering last year. families also asked questions about things like transportation and free and reduced lunch, and how to get involved. but one thing that did not come up was that civil grand jury report that you mentioned issued back in june, titled district adrift. you asked what the district's response is. well, district trustees held a special meeting and rejected most of those findings. the civil grand jury found san jose unified had too much leadership turnover, was lacking in an overall plan for school safety, leaving much of that planning to individual campuses. the civil grand jury also dinged the district on how it handles employee investigations, and on a lack of transparency. the san jose unified board rejected the grand jury recommendations on addressing that turnover, hiring and employee investigations. however, the district said it would explore whether a more

coordinated safety and emergency approach would be more effective than allowing local campuses to decide what's best for them. sj usd will also consider how to provide more transparency for the district, which does not stream its meetings and does not allow people to attend those board meetings remotely. the district's first board meeting, by the way, is coming up on august 22nd. now, just a reminder, san jose unified has 25,000 students heading back to school to today 41 different campuses. that's a lot of different moving movement, a lot of different traffic flow. so please be careful out there in san jose. kris sanchez today in the bay and a lot of kids probably dragging their feet a little bit like, oh, today i'm mine. well, i know, thanks. kris. well frightening new body camera video captures the frantic moments for central valley's first responders, who briefly became trapped in a wildfire burning outside of bakersfield. take a look car 14.

you're sure we can't get out that way? positive copy. we're going to turn around and just get you going the opposite direction. the kern county sheriff's office posted the video. three deputies became trapped two weeks ago while conducting evacuation orders for the burrell fire, which is now mostly contained a forest service officer was with them at one point. they requested air support, which couldn't reach them due to all the smoke cover. after nearly one hour, with help of dispatchers, they hooked up with firefighters and once everyone was safe, the video actually shows the deputies giving one of them a very big hug. well, new details on a tragic accident in the south bay, the death of 11 year old boy struck while riding a scooter in the south bay. this is in san jose on tuesday. now there's a growing memorial there at that site where it all happened. this is at lee and camden avenues. friends and family members. they are now

opening up about their loss. now some are sharing photos of the boy, identified as garcia amber ramos pieroni. now he was just a few days away from entering middle school after attending a bagby elementary school. this is where friends say that he was on his way home from basketball practice, his father telling us that his brother was there when it all happened. he's now sharing the message to all parents to hug your loved ones. you never know when they won't be here, hug them, kiss them, and spend time together. no charges are expected to be file. police are already saying that the car hady of wa. the driver is cooperating with this investigation. well, turning now to our climate in crisis, one bay area city is home to the country's oldest creative reuse center. they take in what one person may see as junk and allow many bay area artists, students and teachers to give it a second life. today in the bay, cinthia pimentel

takes us there this morning by blending the arts and climate awareness. scrap sf is helping people keep objects out of landfills and instead mold them into projects which fill our communities with color, but also create environmental appreciation. born in 1976, in san francisco's bayview district, scrap sf is the nation's oldest creative reuse center. they take in about 1,000 pounds of donations a day, diverting more than 200 tons of materials from landfills each year. that's equal to the weight of 25 school busses. we show the enormous value that there is in being environmentally conscious, because when you see what's out on the on the on on our, on on our, on the sales floor, you're going to be like, wow. like we really need to think about how we're consuming materials and anyone can find just about anything here. notebooks sewing materials, toys, pieces of sculptures, and even party supplies. with prices blowing up everywhere weekly, visitors like ada mikich tells us, scrap sf

and fog, only some peeks of sunshine for the people who are going need to make sure they're prepared for the cool, drizzly and breezy weather we'll see throughout the weekend. now, if you're farther inland, you may want to check out the aloha festival at the san mateo county event center. here we have some really nice weather temperatures in the low 70s from late morning into the afternoon and throughout the day. and then we also have the filipino festival. you'll see our own ginger conejero saab out there. it's going to be nice for the parade on sunday. we're going to have a lot of fog and some peeks of sunshine. temperatures here in the upper 60s, lots of warm weather for the gilroy rodeo this weekend. it'll be in the low 90s on friday, and then also on saturday 92 degrees, but just a little bit lower. but the sunshine continues on sunday. we're watching all of the events as well as our microclimate forecast. i'll have another update in a few minutes. mike, is it any better on the bay bridge? yeah, the lights are moving more smoothly across the

span. you can visibly see the improvement. that's great news on the span we talked about no metering lights and i think they're still not registered on, although they should be turned on about this time. anyway, on a wednesday or thursday we're looking at a smooth drive. but look at this weird backup pattern. this also indicates that they're slowing on the incline for everybody, not just those folks in. those are the middle lanes. hov no advantage right now because the entire bridge span still has to improve as it ripples back toward the bay bridge toll plaza. the volume builds at the same time as there's improvement and clearing across the span, so this will take a little while longer. you see that weird backup at the bay bridge? it's there waiting for you, slowing for highway 37 and highway four into concord. one quick note we still have slowing as you head over on highway four, but it's starting to clear. i think that crew has finally cleared approaching. coming skyway. antioch out there. hey there. first day of school there for antioch unified. so congratulations. first day of school, is there? pleasanton as well? over here in fremont? not till next week, but we do still watch out. paseo padre at dakota. this is off. well off

running mate tim walz were in wisconsin and michigan wednesday, and so too was jd vance and scott mcgrew. not a coincidence. not a coincidence. good morning to you. kamala harris, her new running mate tim walz were in wisconsin and michigan. so was jd vance. that's what we're taking a look at. this morning as we try to get through our technical problems here. so vance is following them. at one point their planes were parked pretty close together on the same part of the tarmac. harris and walz were in eau claire, wisconsin, then detroit, michigan. vance was in eau claire, wisconsin, and a factory that makes airport equipment that off to detroit outside a police station. harris and walton, all the things that make me mad about those other guys and all the things they do wrong. the one thing that i will not forgive them for is their tried to steal the joy from this country. they try and steal the joy. but you know what? you know what our next president brings?

the joy she emanates, the joy. now vance's events. this is a still from one not open to the public. vance was supposed to go to north carolina today. he's been delayed due to weather. harris was supposed to go to georgia, delayed. same reason. now at his detroit stop, vance made an argument over the value of serving in the military. do veterans who serve but were never in a combat zone different than those who were in a combat zone? vance was in iraq, though he didn't fight. he was a public relations specialist. walz was deployed several times over the course of his time in the military, but not to iraq and afghanistan. walz retired after 24 years in the service, shortly before his unit was to deploy to iraq to run for congress. here's vance, he said. we shouldn't allow weapons that i used in war to be on america's streets. well, i wonder tim walz, when were you ever in war? when was this? what was this weapon that

you carried into war, given that you abandoned your unit right before they went to iraq and he has not spent a day in a combat zone? what bothers me about tim walz is the stolen valor garbag. now, the argument over whether one kind of military service is better or more honorable makes than another makes a lot of veterans uncomfortable, reminding many of the so-called swift boat controversy when critics questioned the wounds and the awards that senator john kerry brought back from vietnam. there you see walls on the left, vance on the right. a spokesperson for the harris-walz ticket said, quote, governor walz thanks senator vance for putting his life on the line for our country. it's the american way. president trump says he'll have a press conference today. president biden will meet with the texas rangers at the white house today, then go home to delaware and vice president harris, laura headed to phoenix. we're going to try to take a little trip to paris right now as our coverage on the paris olympics continues. we're nearing the closing days of the

well, both of you are from paris, but she's only been here. for six months. good morning to you to lucille, of course, making baguettes this morning. i'm curious. you've been open six months, here in the heart of danville. what's the response been like? and i'm curious if you've had a greater response because the games are going on. you said something earlier about this. yes, definitely. the you know, the attention on paris and france has helped us, but i would say the response has been overwhelming from the very, very beginning. and in the beginning, yes, we were a bit overwhelmed. it was almost tough to adjust. right now, we're used to it. but, you know, it's been a great response. and being here in danville, where people travel and people have been to france, they know what quality really tastes like. yeah. and so they they really enjoy it. and so you can't fool them. no, you can't fool them. not either because you've got somebody who's directly from paris. exactly. yes what's it like being back here in the united states and watching your home country on television instead of being there? well obviously i'm watching a lot more tv these days because i really want to be

there. but, you know, it's great to see how the french team is performing so well. and it's great to see how paris is displayed to the world in such a beautiful fashion. so yeah, it's exciting. lucille, you said something earlier about seeing your your home country on television. what's it like seeing paris, your home from from here? do you wish do you wish for a moment. you could be back there. yeah, i miss it. a bit, but. yeah, it's good to see it, but. no, i'm glad to be here anyway. are you surprised at the reception? i think a lot of us. yeah, a lot of people were negative about the olympic games in paris, but finally it's doing super well. so everybody is happy. and i like the energy around that. okay. well, very, very nice meeting you and thanks for having us. and you know, you are pointing out there is a well, you can't see it right now. there's a truck parked out front, but there is a gym right across the street and you have

open windows. so people are are working, trying to burn off those calories and they have that smell coming over. is that fair? yeah. no, that's not fair. but straight from the treadmill they can see us and then, you know, they can walk us. it's very complimentary businesses. it it works very well. well it does because they got to keep going back to the gym after they come here. so it's very nice meeting you. merci so. all right, maison benoit's right here on the main drag. what's. what road are we on? railroad avenue? yeah. redwood avenue. that's right. wow, i should know that smells wonderful in there, bob in danville. oh, it smells awesome in here. yes. all right, well, do a little another lap. that'd be worth. yeah. right. yeah. jog around the building and then get another croissant. all right. in that, parisian spirit there. that's a nice way to start. yeah, exactly. and those croissants that they saw, we saw the video earlier. they were just so big. i was like, are they supposed to be that large? maybe they're really small bakers, you know? so that's really cool. all right. so we've had some very warm weather here in the bay area.

eventually things are going to start to change as we take a live look outside in dublin this morning, we are seeing the start of our morning commute. and for a lot of kids heading back to school, some really hot temperatures. but we're also eventually going to see things cooling off. take a look at thi. this shows the jet stream that separates the cool air to the north, and that area of low pressure that means that there is a low amount of pressure being exerted on the surface because the air is rising, and that's going to help drive down that jet stream. and the cold front to eventually make it into the bay area and pushing back that high pressure that's been making it so hot and pushing it farther off towards the east. so we are going to get some relief as we go into next week. and we've been so looking forward to those cooler temperatures eventually going to make it in as we go into early next week. but we do still have some warm temperatures today as we get a look at our forecast that's headed for the upper 80s for san

jose, 88 degrees for los gatos, and 92 degrees in morgan hill. now, we're not seeing the upper 90s, but how about some mid 90s for antioch and low 90s for pleasanton? we're up to 86 in martinez and in hayward today, a comfortable 77 degrees. we do still have just enough of a coastal breeze and to fog bring those temperatures down. half moon bay in the mid 60s, while we will see some upper 70s for san mateo palo alto, 82 degrees and it's still cool in san francisco. upper 60s throughout the day for downtown and the mission district and our north bay. highs anywhere from 86 in napa to 100 degrees in clear lake for today. and we're just going to only see those numbers coming down just a little bit into the weekend and early next week. so once again, the jet stream coming down on monday into tuesday bringing a change in our weather pattern. it's going to be breezy and we'll

really feel that in the overnight lows. that will come down to the upper 50s, but not much of a change in san francisco. we're up to 70 today, and then more upper 60s in the forecast for the weekend into early next week. mike has that bay bridge commute looking well. we have had a change into san francisco. it looks packed, but it's good news because it's your normal pattern. now look, hov lanes look big. advantage it wasn't that way about 15 minutes ago. as we look toward the massive the mass as it builds up here in the middle of the lanes here, everything looks pretty standard with the flow, and we have restored back to the normal flow on the span itself from the earlier crash that had to clear in san francisco. that caused the early backup in the 5:00 earlier in the 5:00 hour. as we look towards 6:00, we see that standard build over here for highway 37. there may have been a car fire approaching that carquinez bridge west 80 does show slowing right around 780. lanes should be cleared in the next couple of minutes if they're not yet. highway four shows a standard built in through concord out of antioch. there may be a little bit later

start for some of the traffic out of antioch for the next few days. remember antioch schools coming online today and the first week of school tends to see a little adjustment by parents who are fortunate enough, perhaps, to be able to be home when those kids leave the house. same thing for pleasanton area. we're seeing san jose unified also. these are major school districts, but also newark. we're watching for that. san lorenzo, other school districts coming online a lot over the next two weeks. so we'll watch for that. a new crash reported on the nimitz don't have detail yet. it's just off the castro valley y. but we see your typical slowing through hayward and down in toward fremont and newark. and over here on the peninsula, an easy flow of traffic. the build is in san jose for north 101 standard flow. no problems on the peninsula. back to you. thanks, mike. well, happening now. firefighters mopping up and monitoring hot spots just after one alarm church fire happened overnight at saint andrew missionary baptist church on post street in san francisco. now that church was damaged, crews say that the fire is now contained. the cause is under investigation. two bears adding up to one exciting debut. next,
